“Construction of the Decan-Plave highway is about more than land and access. It is about upholding court decisions, respecting and preserving the rights of all to practice their faith and live peacefully with their neighbors, and valuing Kosovo’s rich heritage and cultural diversity,“ US ambassador to Pristina, Philip Kosnett said today.
“Collaboration and commitment to solutions that respect the court ruling is the only way forward that leads to a true resolution,” he tweeted.
Kosnett’s announcement arrived after the Pristina government decided today to suspend the works on the road Decani-Plav in the protective zone of the monastery Visoki Decani until a solution is found to which all parties involved would agree to. The news was confirmed by the Kosovo government after a meeting between Kosovo Prime Minister Avdullah Hoti and Decani Mayor Bashkim Ramosaj.
“The PM’s meeting today with Mayor Ramosaj is a step in the right direction,” Kosnett said.
Kosnett is also the first international official in Kosovo to comment on the latest developments regarding the construction of this road since last week when the Diocese of Raska and Prizren warned the public, as well as international representatives, that works continued again in the Special Protective Zone near the monastery.
Previously, the KFOR commander, Michele Risi visited Decani and the SPZ.
