High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini will host, on 8 November in Brussels, a meeting of the EU facilitated Dialogue with President Aleksandar Vucic of Serbia and President Hashim Thaci of Kosovo, EU confirmed today.
At the meeting, the two leaders are expected to confirm their readiness to intensify the work to reach a legally binding agreement on comprehensive normalisation, which is crucial for their respective European paths.
This announcement arrives in the midst of intense discussions on the legally binding agreement between Kosovo and Serbia. Vucic and Thaci have simultaneously been announcing ethnic delimitation between Serbs and Albanians, i.e. border correction, which was harshly criticized by their opposition.
The latest news arrived last evening from Belgrade when the head of the Kosovo Office, Marko Djuric, accused Pristina of blocking the Brussels’s dialogue.
Djuric said, in an urgent press conference, that Serbia is demanding the immediate abolishment of yesterday’s decision by the Kosovo government to increase the import tax on the goods imported from central Serbia by 10%.
Also, a former mediator in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, Robert Cooper, wrote in an alleged confidential letter to EU leaders, which the Kosovo media published, that Vucic refused to take part in a trilateral meeting with Thaci and Mogherini. According to Cooper, this decision „brought the dialogue to a standstill“. He also recalled that this happened several times before – „in June, July and again in September“.
