The Crisis team from the north of Kosovo put a call to the „biggest protest ever“ last night. The protest is set to take place this Thursday in Rudare, where one of the roadblocks is also located.
„We invite the Serbian people living in Kosovo to the biggest public protest ever, which will take place on Thursday, December 22 at 12:00 in Rudare near the cross installation, where our people, made up of our doctors, professors, teachers, miners, relatives, our mothers, sisters will gather to send a clear joint message that we do not agree to persecution and killing and that the North of Kosovo is neither Germany nor Kurti’s private fiefdom, but the place where we live and where we want to stay and survive,“ the Crisis team wrote in a statement.
They listed two reasons behind the protest, one of which, they say, is „the latest threats by Albin Kurti“.
The Crisis team claims that Kurti called for the „disappearance of the Serbian people and the killing of Serbs at the barricades.“
The second reason is „the direct support of Kurti by the German ambassador in Pristina, Jorn Rohde, who dared to set ultimatums and deadlines for the removal of barricades and sided with Kurti’s terror and violence.“
The Ambassador of Germany to Pristina, Jorn Rohde, said in an interview for KTV that the barricades are illegal and that those who set them up should remove them before Christmas. He did not specify whether he was talking about the Catholic or Orthodox Christmas.
The Guardian reported yesterday that the Prime Minister of Kosovo allegedly stated that Pristina is worried that the removal of the barricades in the north „cannot exclude the victims“.
„That’s why we want to be as careful as possible, to make sure that there will be no destabilization and that there will be relative peace and security,“ said Kurti, this daily reports.
At the same time, he repeated that the barricades cannot last forever and that they should be removed as soon as possible, noting that both the US and the EU agree with that.
The Serbian side interpreted these statements of the Kosovo PM as threats to the Serbs at the barricades.
„The threats and the call for liquidation sent to the Serbs at the barricades by Albin Kurti, who is clearly losing his temper in front of the democratic and peaceful response of the Serbian people, are frightening,“ said the head of the Kosovo Office, Petar Petkovic.
In a similar tone, the Srpska Lista chief, Goran Rakic, reacted to the last alleged statement of the Kosovo Prime Minister.
The Srpska Lista chief, Goran Rakic, said in a video address from the barricades in Rudare yesterday that Kurti „openly proposes killing Serbs.“
He also had a message for Pristina, i.e. the „recipe“ for removing the barricades – „release the arrested, withdraw the police from the North, remove the lists“.
The local Serbs erected barricades in the north of Kosovo, in nine places, 12 days ago. The Jarinje and Brnjak crossings have also been closed since then. Although Kosovo and international officials have been calling for their removal since day one, the barricades have yet to be dismantled.
