The head of the Free Citizens’ Movement (PSG), Sasa Jankovic testified this week in the case of the murder of Oliver Ivanovic at the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime in Belgrade. He was interviewed following a request of the Kosovo Specialist Prosecutor’s Office in Pristina.

Jankovic held a press conference confirming this information on the same day when three Serbs were arrested in North Mitrovica on the suspicion of being involved in Ivanovic’s murder, while the fourth one, introduced as Srpska Lista Vice President is at large.

Jankovic revealed that he did not intend to go public, taking into account the best interests of the investigation. His interview with the justice was, however, leaked to certain Belgrade-based tabloids from the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime several hours after his testimony, which was the reason for Jankovic to go public then.

Jankovic said that he was in frequent contact with the assassinated Oliver Ivanovic. The Specialist Prosecutor’s Office in Pristina, which attained the records of his conversations with Ivanovic, requested his testimony because he had often ended these conversations with warnings to Ivanovic that his life was in danger and that he should „look after himself and his family“.

He claimed that either Ivanovic’s or his telephone were wiretapped during that period and stated that he received the information on the threats on Ivanovic’s life from Ivanovic himself, especially after a meeting between the SDP leader and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic late last year.

„Ivanovic told Vucic who, where and how he was threatened during that meeting… Vucic asked him whether he planned to co-operate with Srpska Lista. After Ivanovic responded that he did not want to cooperate with people from that political party and crime, Vucic remained silent for 40 minutes (until the end of the meeting),“ Jankovic said, adding that Ivanovic himself had said that this was a „bad sign“.

Jankovic also emphasized that this meeting was the reason for him as well to suspect that Ivanovic had been left on his own and his life was in danger.

This opposition leader also confirmed that Ivanovic had reported the same threats to the BIA.

Members of the Kosovo Special Police Unit arrested four Serbs in North Mitrovica in the early morning hours on Thursday in connection with the investigation into the murder of Oliver Ivanovic by order of Kosovo Special Prosecutor’s Office, while the police are still searching for the fourth suspect, M.R. Two of the arrested are members of the Kosovo Police in the north of Mitrovica.

Oliver Ivanovic was shot six times in the back on January 16th in the early morning on his way to work, in front of his party premises in North Mitrovica.
