„Since we received your letter, as Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija, we want to say to you: It is nice that you care that Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija do not experience a ‘Storm’ which we already had in 1999. when more than 200,000 Serbs left their centuries-old homes. Since you were in power at that time, it would be too much for us to experience two Storms during your rule. In those years, we recall that, while groups of refugees were leaving Kosovo and Metohija, along with the army and the police, at your behest, because you were the Minister of Information at the time, the media wrote about our victory over the NATO pact” – the Kosovo opposition movement „Otadzbina“ responded to last week’s letter the Serbian President sent to Kosovo Serbs.
They criticized the Serbian President’s policy towards Kosovo and ask him to stop negotiating on behalf of the Kosovo Serbs.
Below we publish a few quotes from the letter:
“You want to partition Kosovo, to demarcate with the Albanians … Serbs as a nation cannot survive the loss of Serbian sanctities, churches and monasteries regardless of your, as you say, ‘increased gross domestic product’.
Is it logical for a country to be richer if it is smaller, and not if it is bigger? Today you are demarcating from the Albanians, tomorrow you will have to do the same for the Hungarians, Bosniaks, Bulgarians … You are reducing Serbia to the Belgrade pashaluk.“
„You appointed the President of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci and the Prime Minister, Ramush Haradinaj, using the votes of your ‘Srpska Lista’, so it’s surprising that those you appointed want to banish the Serbs now. Before noon, you called Ramush Haradinaj a slaughterer of Serbian children, and in the afternoon you appointed him as the Prime Minister with the votes of your daughter-party, the so-called Srpska Lista. You forced Serbian judges to swear an oath before Hashim Thaci, who is justifiably suspected of trafficking human organs of Serbs.“
Vucic’s messages on the safety of the Kosovo Serbs are not convincing for these activists:
„If you could not prevent the arrest of your minister in the Serbian government, Marko Djuric, how can you then guarantee any kind of safety to other Serbs?“; „Since you came to power, the safety of Serbs, especially in the north of Kosovo and Metohija, has rapidly deteriorated. Six Serbs were killed. You have repeatedly stated that these murders were not ethnically motivated. If you know that they are not Albanians, then they are Serbs. Which Serbs?“ they asked the Serbian President.
As a reason they also state their claim that the Serbian President „is initiating violence against political opponents in Kosovo“:
„Sometimes it is setting cars on fire, sometimes it is setting party premises on fire, throwing bombs on family homes of political opponents… How many times did you ask the late Oliver Ivanovic, on national media, to tell you the name of the person who killed M.S?
Unfortunately, you made a moving target out of him, together with your media. After his murder, you promised that you would discover the names of the perpetrators in twenty days. We did not get an answer even though over half a year had passed.“
„Speaking of borders, integrated border management was agreed upon by Boris Tadic and you implemented it.”“In Brussels, you made a deal with Pristina that 30% of customs revenues from the administrative crossings at Jarinje and Brnjak will go to municipalities in the north of Kosovo and Metohija. That agreement is still standing. You have sold the state for 30% of the customs revenues, and you are accusing the Deputy Slavisa Ristic of such a crime.“
„You are trying to use the Goebbels method – a lie that is repeated a thousand times becomes truth. The documents and witnesses say something different.”
They also addressed the Association of Serb Municipalities, which is no longer in the focus of attention, despite the second deadline for the ultimatum of Srpska Lista, and due to the headlines on a possible partition. Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija do not need the ASM, the opposition activists said:
„According to the Brussels Agreement, which you signed, it is written, clearly and precisely, that it should be formed in accordance with the constitution and law of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo. Such a separatist institution is not in the interest of Serbs. We need Serbian, not separatist institutions. Unfortunately, over the past six years, you have handed over the majority of Serbian institutions in Kosovo and Metohija to Pristina.“
Finally, the members of Otadzbina reminded the President on what he did not write about in his letter: „You wrote nothing about the displacement of Serbs from Kosovo and Metohija…You wrote nothing about Russian’s opinion that your comprehensive peace agreement, which you want to sign with Albanians, it resembles the Munich agreement between Germany and Czechoslovakia…You wrote nothing about your denial of the Resolution 1244.“
„Speaking of Resolution 1244, how come, 15 days after the visit of Tony Blair, your adviser, the United Kingdom removed Kosovo and Metohija from the agenda of the Security Council?“ – was the last question they submitted to the President of the Republic.
