Srpska Lista candidates for mayor in elections in the four northern Kosovo municipalities were not confirmed by the Central Election Commission on Tuesday.
Two Commission members from the Vetevendosje (self-determination) movement refused to vote to confirm the three Srpska Lista candidates, saying that they violated the constitution and denied the population access to services when they resigned five months ago.
The four mayors of Serb-majority municipalities tendered their resignations in protest over last November’s decision by the Kosovo government to impose 100 percent tariffs on Serbian goods. President Hashim Thaci recently called the elections for May 19.
A two-thirds majority of votes are required for the Central Election Commission to confirm candidates.
