Vucic: My policy – for Serbia to preserve a lot in Kosovo – has been defeated

I am telling you now, we have been defeated. My policy – for Serbia to preserve a lot of things in Kosovo and Metohija – obviously did not win out in Serbia, because Serbs prefer to lose everything, because Serbs prefer to cry over their own destiny – the President of the Republic of Serbia said last night.

Aleksandar Vucic presented, in another public address, his assessment of Serbia’s current situation on the Kosovo issue at a meeting of the main board members of his ruling Serbian Progressive Party. The Serbs, he said, prefer to cry over something that has been lost at a distance rather than to have something tangible in their hands.

„I cannot accept that the Serbia that likes to lose, the Serbia of disaster is to the fore among people in this country. The first round was won by the Serbia of disaster, the Serbia of cries, complaints, and not a Serbia that is built on success,“ he emphasized.

Vucic fears there will be no new chances, adding:

“We will fight even stronger and harder for our people in Kosovo and Metohija. We will fight to make these people’s lives richer, to make these people’s lives better, for these people to have more money and so that these people will be incomparably safer than they are today.“

After explaining that those who criticized his speech in North Mitrovica had actually presented a „fake speech“, Vucic provided a more detailed explanation last night:
“My speech in Kosovska Mitrovica was a speech of discontinuity with policies of President Milosevic. But you also noticed that no one wanted to hear that, although it was clear to everyone who listened to what I was saying: ‘Someone will read those words someday and they will say what the real truth actually is’.“

The President explained the reason behind this kind of interpretation: „Because they need a bad, confrontational Serbia in the region, they need a Serbia which will threaten wars.“

Below we publish part of Aleksandar Vucic’s speech on Kosovo and Metohija from the SNS meeting of the main board members at the Sava Center in Belgrade.

You noticed that they were all in the same place – starting from Sonja Biserko and everyone in those types of non-governmental organizations, including supposedly prominent Serbian nationalists. It is fine for Sonja Biserko, Sava Janjic, Rada Trajkovic to be on the same side. There is no difference between them, but those who pretended to be the most ardent nationalists also found themselves among them and their policy is completely identical: That we have nothing in Kosovo and Metohija and that it is important that we do have (something) in our stories and in our fairytales.

“Why did I say that I have a great concern? There is a large concern because of the vastly opposed interests of the great powers, because no one can predict what will happen in the next ten, fifteen or twenty days, and do not forget that we, the Serbs, are those who have been considered the disruptive factor by many.

I am not worried about the fact that the whole world has jumped, or part of the world, which is the only truth that suits them, and it’s just that. Nevertheless, I cannot speak badly as much as I would like to speak about the Americans, or about anyone else. Unfortunately, I can speak about many others from the West who would like their truth to be the only truth and for Serbia to be ignored on many topics, and for whom Serbia can only be good if it is absolutely or one hundred percent obedient. But I am not worried about them.

I am telling you now, we have been defeated. I will not tell you to whom I talked to and who told me – this is exactly what we want. I have asked those people, although these are people you should not offend, to leave my office, because I cannot accept that a defeatist Serbia, that the Serbia of disaster is coming out in top in this country. They won the first round, the first round was won by the Serbia of disaster, the Serbia of cries, complaints, and not a Serbia of positivity.”
