„When they (Lajcak, Heiko Maas, Pendarovski) talk about the fact that there are no territorial changes, I want you to know that they are not being frank. They want Serbia to fully recognize the territory of Kosovo as an independent state. Of course, I won’t do that,“ the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic said on TV Prva today. Vucic also told them that, in that case, they should bring someone else to power in Serbia because „begging them for something doesn’t cross his mind“.
I don’t remember the last time I talked to Thaci
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic reiterated that he does not remember the last time he talked to the President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci or any of the Pristina representatives.
„I saw him (Thaci) at some of those gatherings, don’t take my word for it,“ the President of Serbia said on TV Prva today, while there are rumors both in the region and beyond that he is working with the President of Kosovo on the implementation of the land swap idea.
„Take care not to talk about these topics, I beg you, it’s not your job“
Vucic also commented on a statement from the President of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, who said that border change, as a solution to the Kosovo issue, would not be a good idea.
The Serbian President recalled that the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heiko Maas said the same thing and that he interpreted Pendarovski’s statement as an attempt to „score points with the Germans“.
On Wednesday, the German Bundestag, in addition to extending the Bundeswehr’s mission within KFOR, they also discussed the solution for the Kosovo issue. At that time, Maas once again rejected the idea of a land swap, assessing that relations between Belgrade and Pristina had deteriorated.
„Serbia is in a difficult position. People need to understand that. We are trying to have good relations with everyone, even those who recognized Kosovo – they did not care about preserving the integrity and international public law in 2008 and 2009. Today, they are telling us how much they care about that and about keeping safe those who, in their opinion, left Serbia illegally.“
On the other hand, he claimed that Serbs and Macedonians have fantastic relations, adding that he only asked for one thing at Pendarovski’s inauguration:
“Pay attention, I beg you, because you have already done something that many countries would look at differently than we did – you recognized Kosovo’s independence. Take care not to talk about these topics, I beg you, it is not your job. Don’t talk about it, and when you talk about it, think about the fact that there are those who think differently than you.“
„They wanted to appeal to the Germans“
Vucic claimed that the representatives of Northern Macedonia did the opposite „in order to stand out once again in appealing to the Germans“.
On the other hand, the president said he understands these appeals,’ because Germany is a dominant power.
„They gave more money to one country than to all European countries combined,“ the president added, without specifying which country he was talking about.
Vucic also stressed that he understands why others in the region chose to „fawn over the most powerful countries in an inappropriate way“. He, however, underlined that he does not want to do that.
„I will not fawn over my own people, let alone other people’s representatives.“
On the other hand, when “they talk about the fact that there are no territorial changes, I want you to know that they are not being frank – when Lajcak says that and when Heiko Maas, Pendarovski, say that. They can gather three, four of them from the region to repeat the same thing that Pendarovski said,“ the president explained.
According to Vucic, the real goal is for „Serbia to fully recognize the territory of Kosovo as an independent state.
“Of course, I won’t do that,” he added.
„As far as we are concerned, we will say, ‘folks, there are no problems with the territory, the territory is defined by Resolution 1244.’”
The president reiterated that „he has been listening to those stories for seven or eight years“. Vucic said that “since they all have a solution,” he recommends the following:
„No problem, solve it, bring someone else to power in Serbia and solve it in a day and make him do it and then explain to us that you took something off our backs. I don’t know what you can convince the people in Serbia. I will not participate in your talks. Begging you for something doesn’t cross my mind.”
That is why, according to Vucic, he can’t wait „to see what these experts will do, those geniuses who know everything, who patronize us – about what they won’t do and the way they won’t do something, and what a compromise solution would be. Just let them tell us.“
Representatives of Serbs from Montenegro expect support from Serbia, Serbia will stand with its people and the SOC
Vucic also commented on the situation in Montenegro and the incidents that took place after the arrest of Bishop Joanikije and other priests.
After a video conference with Serb representatives in Montenegro, Vucic said he had heard of worries that „someone was planning to solve the problem with Serbs in the same way as in some other parts of the former Yugoslavia“. The Serbian President underlined that he did not want to believe it, but that he was still worried over such assessments, reported Beta news agency.
He said that they expect support from Serbia, and that the next meeting will probably be attended by the Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church Irinej, Serb member of the Presidency of BiH Milorad Dodik and President of the Republika Srpska, Zeljka Cvijanovic.
„All in all, Serbia will stand with its people and the Serbian Orthodox Church. We respect Montenegro as a state, but we will support our people,“ Vucic said.
He reminded that a census is planned to be held in Montenegro in 2020 and that according to the last census, 28% of Montenegrins declared themselves as Serbs, while many did not declare themselves that way „in order to save their jobs and families“.
„In previous research, we could not find 15% of Serbs, and according to the latest research, there are over 20% of them. Our job is to help preserve identity, in accordance with international and public law and European heritage,“ he said.
Vucic added that he could negotiate with the President of Montenegro, but that he was afraid that the two of them „have a different understanding of the positions of the state and the (Serbian) people.“
