A fan group connected to the Trepca Basketball Club, „Torcida 1984“ made the banner with the inscription: „Regardless of how many times you come close to Kosovo, you only dig your own graves“ with depictions of the recent clashes in Banjska. They wanted to display the banner during yesterday’s match, however, they were prevented by the Kosovo police, the KP confirmed for KoSSev.
Basketball club Trepca had a game last night against basketball club Pristina.
Before this match, the fans of the club from South Mitrovica unfurled a huge banner with the inscription „Regardless of how many times you come close to Kosovo, you only dig your own grave.“
In addition to the inscription, the banner of the fan group Torcida depicts a cemetery, a church, and trees on which men have been hanged, while other people on the banner are shown carrying rifles and walking over a hill with the sign „Exit“ above them. On the other side of the banner is a tank with a bent pipe and smoke coming out of it.
There is also a figure of the Grim Reaper with two eagles on its head, and the date 09/24/2023, when a conflict took place in Banjska between an armed group and the Kosovo Police in which one member of the Kosovo Police and three Serbs from the north of Kosovo were killed.
The group announced last night that they decided to make a banner in order to respond to various activities and symbols „against terror and ethnic provocations“.
„During this week, we prepared a choreography with humiliating motifs for the lepers, who also suffered badly this time,“ Torcida said.
This banner was hung in the hall before the match, however, as the fans testified, not during the game itself.
„The Kosovo police categorically threatened us with arrests and imprisonment of group members like never before, applied wild control over us and forcibly removed our work from the hall,“ Torcida said.
They claimed that the police thus „humiliated their colleague, now the hero of Kosovo“.
The spokesman of the Kosovo Police for the Mitrovica South region, Avni Zahiti, confirmed for KoSSev that the officers responded last night, at the invitation of the match organizers.
He said that the police did not allow the banner to be put up, however, he could not confirm whether it had been confiscated.
„The police received a call from the match delegate, reacted and did not allow it to be set up… When it comes to sports, no one has the right to carry banners with non-sport names. After that, the police intervened,“ Zahiti told KoSSev.
He added that a case has not been launched so far.
