The enthronement of the Serb Patriarch Porfirije in the Pecka Patrijarsija Monastery, announced for May 23rd, according to earlier Balgrade-based tabloid announcements, has been postponed. What had been unofficially announced some time ago has been officially confirmed by the Serb Patriarchate tonight.

The reason for the delay is the epidemiological measures in force in Kosovo, reads the announcement.

At the same time, the Patriarchate informed the public that a regular session of the SOC Parliament would be held on May 24th, which would begin with a liturgy on the feast of St. Cyril and Methodius, in the Memorial Church of Saint Sava in Vracar.

Patriarch Porfirije was appointed to this position on February 18th in Belgrade, with the remark that the date of traditional enthronement in Pecka Patrijarsija Monastery will be announced later.

The Serb Patriarch spent the first three days of Easter Lent in mid-March at this monastery as well.

In April, a Belgrade based tabloid read that the enthronement would take place on May 23rd.

The Pecka Patrijarsija Monastery was a local autocephalous Orthodox church with its headquarters in Pec/ Peja and the first archbishopric of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The throne of the Patriarchs of Pec is in the Monastery of Pecka Patrijarsija.

The monastery itself, which consists of four churches built throughout the century – from the middle of the XIII to the middle of the XIV century (the Holy Apostles – the main and oldest, the Church of the Mother of God, St. Demetrius and the Church of the Mother of God with the Church of St. Nicholas) has been under UNESCO protection after heavy ethnic riots against Kosovo Serbs took place in 2004
