The Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church Irinej has been staying in Kosovo for the past four days. He visited the Metohija monasteries, while today he spent time in Kosovsko Pomoravlje before arriving in North Mitrovica tomorrow at 11.

While meeting Serbian people, he conveyed several messages, including the adamant voice against the partition of Kosovo.

„Serbian people will never be able to accept this, especially the Serbian people from Kosovo, what we hear about some kind of partition, about some kind of compromise. The worst and the most dangerous thing would be if we renounced Kosovo, if we just gave it to somebody. A smart man does not give his home, his house to anyone and this is the house of the Serbian people,“ he underlined.

Patriarch Irinej stated that it was not the first time that the Serbian people in Kosovo find themselves in a difficult situation and encouraged the Kosovo Serbs to have hope and preserve their faith in order to survive.

He told the believers in a church in Orahovac that „a great honor of fighting“ rests on this and stressed that they „should not to lose hope and faith.“

„We know that you do not have it easy but know that you are not alone, the Serbian people are thinking of you, we know in what conditions you live in. It is worth living for Kosovo and Metohija, but it is also worth dying for it – as our ancestors showed us,“ he said.

The Patriarch reiterated that Kosovo and Metohija is the Jerusalem for the Serbs.

The Patriarch spoke on the unity of Serbs, saying he sees division amongst them. He carried similar messages during his speech at the recent celebration marking the 20th anniversary of the NATO bombing, in the company of state leadership and Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik, while commenting on the “1 out of 5 million” protests:

„What we see on the streets today is not good, it gives our strength to the enemies, it is known how one comes to power. They cannot come to power in this way, but they can harm their people and their state.“

In addition to Pec Patriarchy and monastery Visoki Decani, Orahovac and Velika Hoca, the Patriarch also visited Prizren yesterday. Acoompanied by Archbishop Teodosije, he took a walk along one of the town’s streets, nearby the Seminary.

Patriarch Irinej will visit North Mitrovica tomorrow, where he will give a blessing to the Serb people in Kosovo at 11 o’clock, in front of the temple of St. Dimitrije.
