The graffiti of Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and Russian President Vladimir Putin appeared this morning in Pristina with the message: “North is not Crimea”, the Pristina-based Kallxo portal reported.
The graffiti appeared in various locations around the student center and the Faculty of Natural Sciences. It is still unknown who drew the graffiti, Kallxo reported.
Hashim Thaci recently met with Vladimir Putin in Paris during the celebration of the 100th anniversary since the end of the First World War. Thaci shared a series of photographs from this meeting, along with Putin’s alleged message: „President Putin clearly said – If Kosovo and Serbia reach a peace agreement, Russia will support it.“
Thaci was seated behind Putin at the ceremony held in the Champs-Elysees, and, afterwards, he sat right next to him at a peace conference.
This meeting had caused strong reactions both in Belgrade and Pristina – especially from the opposition.
The treatment the Serbian President received in Paris – being seated across from world leaders and Thaci, in a section envisaged for lower-level officials, and the news of Kosovo flag being displayed in Notre Dame next to 19 flags of Allied (victorious) forces of the Great War has also caused strong reactions in Belgrade. Serbia was an ally of France in both world wars, and, according to Serbia’s population at the time, it had the highest number of victims in the First World War (1,250,000 casualties).
The Russian Federation does not recognize the independence of Kosovo.
