The Special Prosecution of Kosovo has filed an indictment against minister of Infrastructure, Pal Lekaj. He is accused of corruption at the time he served as mayor of Gjakovica/Gjakova.
Lekaj who is senior official of the ruling AAK party, currently is minister of Infrastructure in Ramush Haradinaj’s Government. Online media Betimi per Drejtesi is reporting that Lekaj is indicted of two criminal charges: misuse of official duty and misappropriation in Office at the time he served as Gjakovica mayor. The prosecutor of the case Faik Halili said that the indictment has already been filed at the Basic Court of Gjakovica.
Lekaj served two mandates as mayor of Gjakovica from 2007 to 2013. In 2014 general election Lekaj won a seat in Kosovo Assembly with the AAK and was head of parliamentary group of the AAK which at that time was in opposition. After 2017 snap elections, Lekaj’s party AAK became part of the ruling coalition and he was appointed minister of Infrastructure.
