“It is highly unlikely that the border change will transpire without violence”

It is highly unlikely that the change of Kosovo’s borders will transpire without violence –several European ambassadors in Pristina estimated in a confidential report drafted for the purposes of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), a pan-European organization with great influence, writes Pristina-based newspaper Koha Ditore.

The report estimated that Thaci started losing the support of foreign observers in Kosovo, while Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, Parliament speaker Kadri Veseli and the Self-Determination Movement (Vetevendosje) are underlined as opponents of Thaci’s idea of border change and the exchange of territories.

„Both sides, in the state, in the debate about the idea of „border correction“ are clearly defined: Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, Parliament speaker Kadri Veseli and the opposition party Self-Determination Movement – oppose the idea, while President Hashim Thaci is its main advocate,“ the report outlined.

The three-page report, one copy of which is owned by Koha Ditore, was drafted by the current Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the German Parliament – the Bundestag, Norbert Roettgen, and the former supervisor of the technical dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Robert Cooper. The report deals with the issue of the referendum on Macedonia’s new name, as well as the debate on the change of borders in Kosovo.
