„Indictment is not as surprising as the fact that Thaci and Veseli are the first,“ the Vice-President at the Council for Inclusive Governance, Shpetim Gashi told KoSSev regarding the news that the Kosovo Special Prosecutor filed indictments with the Kosovo Specialist Chambers against Hashim Thaci and Kadri Veseli.

“The charges most likely will be confirmed,” Gashi said.

The court’s press statement shows the charges were filed on April 24th, so the pre-trial judge already had two months to go over the file, so the court must have had some info that the charges will be confirmed before going ahead with such a consequential announcement, Gashi explained.

On the other hand, he added that the timing of the indictment is “quite surprising.”

“The court has reiterated before that justice runs its own course and is not influenced by politics. The court’s statement says that Thaci and Veseli were involved in efforts to undermine the court. Coincidence or not, this damages Grenell’s process irreparably,” Gashi told KoSSev.

Similar to Vukcevic’s warnings in his earlier statement for KoSSev, Gashi also stressed that the charges have not been confirmed, and that the Washington meeting could still take place. Gashi underlined, however, that this meeting would have “very little significance.”

“Certainly, I would not expect any relevant Kosovo-Serbia agreement under the new circumstances,” Gashi concluded.

The Kosovo Special Prosecutor announced today that it filed an indictment with the Kosovo Specialist Chambers against Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci and the President of the PDK and one of the most influential politicians in Kosovo – Kadri Veseli and other persons whose names have not been announced. According to the indictment, they are charged with “a range of crimes against humanity and war crimes, including murder, enforced disappearance of persons, persecution, and torture.“

The indictment alleges that they are criminally responsible for nearly 100 murders. There are now only four months left from the six-month statutory deadline of April 24th for the pre-trial judge to confirm or dismiss the indictment.
