„In a critical week when Kosovo is trying to build political and institutional unity for a trilateral meeting with Serbia in Washington under the auspices of the White House, potential visits will be perceived as politicization and counterproductive provocation ahead of serious and concrete initiatives by international partners,“ the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo, Meliza Haradinaj Stubla wrote on Facebook today, responding to Kosovo media reports about the alleged visit of the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic to Gazivode. The news about this visit came from unverified, that is, old information published by the nova.rs portal about the visit announced by Vucic back in 2018.
Haradinaj Stubla also recalled the agreement from Brussels on regional representation, according to which high-ranking officials must submit a request for a visit 72 hours in advance, which, she emphasized, the Serbian president failed to do.
In a reaction to the fictitious visit, this Minister of Foreign Affairs said that „Kosovo and its resources are the property of Kosovo and its citizens,“ stressing that they will not become „the site of provocative parades aimed at promoting interests belonging to the previous century.“
Although presenting these allegations, Stubla said that „Kosovo remains a constructive side, dedicated to promoting peace, security and stability in the region.“
The news from 2018, when the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vucic announced that he would visit Gazivode, was published on the nova.rs portal this morning due to a „technical error of the nova.rs editorial office“, produced numerous reactions in the Kosovo media scene, although the portal nova.rs deleted the news soon after it was published and apologized to the readers.
Pristina-based Zeri wrote that the Serbian president „canceled his visit to Gazivode,“ referring to the reports from B92, which published confirmation from the office of the Serbian president that the information about the visit to Gazivode was „false“.
In the same text, Zeri recalled that Gazivode is a „hot topic“, as well as the fact that the President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, visited this artificial lake in Zubin Potok. This media outlet added that Vucic will travel to Washington in early September where he will meet with the Kosovo Prime Minister, Avdullah Hoti under the auspices of the US Special Envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Richard Grenell.
The portal Gazeta Blic also linked the unverified news about Vucic’s visit to Gazivode with the meeting in Washington, referring to the fictitious visit as a „provocation“ before the continuation of the dialogue at the expert level in Brussels and the meeting of Serbian and Kosovo leaders in Washington.
A meeting in Brussels as part of the dialogue led by Lajcak at an expert level is scheduled for August 27th, while a meeting between Vucic and Hoti under the auspices of Grenell will be held on September 4.
