Just a day before the end of the deadline the Municipality of North Mitrovica gave to the Serb institutions situated in Bosniak Mahala to submit documents on the registration of services or to vacate the building, the Kosovo Police received a tip about an explosive device in that building and inspected the premises.
„Around 9 a.m., we received a tip that there may be a bomb in this building,“ the deputy commander of the KP for the region north, Veton Elshani, confirmed.
Elshani added that the police went to the scene and inspected the entire building.
„Together with the workers employed in this building, we performed a visual inspection of the premises on all three floors. We spoke to the workers and asked them if they noticed anything unusual.“
He underlined that it was most likely a false tip.
The workers were not evacuated and remained at their workplaces.
The building in question houses the offices of the Kosovo Office, the Kosovo-Mitrovica District, the Vucitrn Social Services Department, as well as the Office of the Pension and Insurance Fund.
In late August, the inspection department of the Municipality of North Mitrovica visited this building and gave the director of one of these Serb institutions a deadline of three days to submit the necessary documentation or to move out.
The deadline was then extended by another two weeks and is set to expire tomorrow.
Srpska Lista announced yesterday that they reject “the ultimatum of the regime in Pristina” to vacate the mentioned premises.
They reiterated that this is a building that houses institutions that have been providing services to all citizens without distinction for years.
The entry, or „persecution and violent occupation“ of Kosovo structures into the building would threaten the exercise of human and civil rights for tens of thousands of people, the party concluded.
