A grey Volkswagen Scirocco with Belgrade license plates was set on fire last night in Kolasinska Street in North Mitrovica, near the Faculty of Economy.
The spokesman of the Kosovo Police for the region north, Branislav Radovic, confirmed for KoSSev that the case was classified as arson.
The car, owned by K.P. (2000), was set on fire late last night around 03.00h by an unknown perpetrator.
The police, as well as the forensic team, examined and secured the site where the car was torched.
Radovic told KoSSev that the police took the statement of the witness at the north region police station.
The prosecutor classified the case as „arson“ and „causing danger“.
The investigation is ongoing.
In previous years, multiple cases of vehicle arson were reported in the Kosovo Serb-populated areas.
Previously, the last cases of arson took place in October last year, when four vehicles, i.e. three cars and a truck, were set on fire on the same night in North and South Mitrovica, but also in Zubin Potok.
With the exception of a bombing case, as well as the burnt vehicle(s) during the October clashes in the north, this is the 45th case of vehicle arson in Serb-populated areas since 2014, that is, a total of 51 cars have been torched so far. See the full list of vehicle arson HERE.
