A convoy of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) briefly entered North Mitrovica this morning, reportedly by mistake, according to a short statement issued by Kosovo’s Ministry of Defense.
“The Kosovo Security Force informs the public that today, October 16, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., during the movement of a KSF convoy from Istok to the KSF barracks in Mitrovica, KSF members with vehicles mixed up the direction of movement,” the ministry said.
The statement came shortly after several KSF vehicles crossed the East Bridge from South Mitrovica to North Mitrovica around 10:30 a.m., driving along Knjaz Miloš Street and a section of the main King Peter Street, all the way to a gas station near the police station.
While some residents initially believed the vehicles belonged to KFOR, it soon became apparent that they were KSF vehicles, prompting reactions in traffic. Witnesses told KoSSev that some drivers honked their horns in protest.
Before the Ministry’s statement was released, Deputy Commander for the North Region, Veton Elshani, confirmed to KoSSev that the vehicles indeed belonged to the KSF. He said that the units stopped at the gas station for about five minutes, explaining that they had “gotten lost.”
“Police officers saw them, approached, and asked what was happening. They replied that they had ‘made a mistake’ and thought they were in South Mitrovica,” Elshani said.
According to him, police then escorted the KSF convoy to Dudin Krš.
Based on available footage and witness accounts, the KSF vehicles entered North Mitrovica from South Mitrovica across the East Bridge. If confirmed, this would mean they drove roughly two kilometers through the northern part of the city before being escorted out.
KoSSev has reached out to KFOR for comment.
The KSF cannot enter northern municipalities without the explicit approval of the KFOR Commander.
