„Gratitude to our President for remembering our sanctities, and not only here but also in other places, but I want to say, right here, that I shall not thank him for the words he has been saying to Kosovo Serbs these days. These are not the words of hope, these are not the words of christianity, they are unworthy of the one who is at the helm of this nation“ – the Bishop Teodosije said Wednesday at Banjska monastery in the north of Kosovo. One of the most beautiful Serbian monasteries, it was severely ruined over the centuries, but during the recent years it has been under renovation. Currently, it is one of the favorite sites not just for believers from the North, but for other visitors as well.
Teodosije said that the monastery and monasticism are being restored by the power of God, but also by the kindness of many contributors to whom he expressed his gratitude today.
„In the first place, I would like to point out the Kosovo Office, the Government of the Republic of Serbia,“ the Bishop thanked many national and international donors, including the Serbian President.
„I would also like to point out the personal contribution of our President, Mr. Aleksandar Vucic, who visited this site and who himself wished for this holy place to be restored. Gratitude to our President for remembering our sanctities, and not only here but also in other places,“ he said.
„However, I shall not thank him for the words he has been saying to Kosovo Serbs these days,“ said Bishop Teodosije. He emphasized that „these are not the words of hope, these are not the words of Christians, they are unworthy of the one who is at the helm of this nation.”
Why scare a small flock?
„Why scare a small flock? If the Lord gives us strength and courage, and we are rebuilding in the most difficult time, not only here in Banjska, but also in Prizren, Devic, Archangels and Djakovica, we are rebuilding everywhere and it does not matter how many of us are there. Who we are and what we represent today in this area is what matters, this is the most important thing for us Christians, and not the force and power of this world, but the power of God and God can do what people cannot do.“
The Bishop also commented on the yesterday’s statements of Aleksandar Vucic on not a single Serb living in Djakovica.
It is hard for us to hear it, we are living there, the nuns, there is a regular church ceremony carried out, is that not enough for us at such a hard time, said the Bishop.
Bishop Teodosije and Abbot Sava Janjic have come under strong criticism and verbal attacks by both official Belgrade and Srpska Lista after the Bishop’s appeal against ethnic partition and Janjic’s alert on the threat of a staged incident in the north to provoke partition. Both of them warned of threats to force the majority of Kosovo Serbs, some 70.000 of them south of the partition line to an imminent exodus.
