The president of the New Democratic Party of Serbia for Kosovo and the head of the party’s town committee in North Mitrovica, Boris Janicijevic, has resigned from these posts, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced in the Serbian Parliament today.
A session of the Serbian Parliament on Kosovo is underway. After a presentation of a report on the negotiation process with Pristina by the President of Serbia, there was a discussion about the dialogue itself, as well as the European plan.
During the session, a physical clash broke out between representatives of the government and the opposition. The chairman of the Assembly and Vucic placed the blame for the clash on the opposition.
Responding to opposition MPs, the President of Serbia said that they tried to „destroy and end their country“, but that they actually „destroyed themselves.“
He informed MPs that the President of the New Democratic Party of Serbia for Kosovo, Boris Janicijevic, tendered his resignation with immediate effect, precisely due to „the circus that broke out in the Assembly“.
Vucic read aloud a news report published by the Kosovo Online portal.
Janicijevic told this media outlet that his colleagues from the town committee of the New DSS from North Mitrovica supported him in this decision and that they all also tendered their resignations.
„I gave my all to the defense of Kosovo. I really don’t want to look at this circus,“ said Janicijevic, adding that „the new DSS does not exist in North Mitrovica as of today.“
KoSSev reached out to Janicijevic to confirm the allegations about his resignation, but no response has been received as of the publishing of this article.
After reading the news report, Vucic told the opposition that he would not allow them to „destroy Serbia“ just as he “does not allow Kosovo Prime Minister, Albin Kurti” to do so.
Boris Janicijevic served as the president of the New DSS for Kosovo and the head of the municipal committee of this party in North Mitrovica since its foundation.
The municipal committee was formed in July of last year, eight years after the representative office of this party in North Mitrovica was shut down.
Only three days earlier, Janicijevic shared a video from the main board of the New DSS, in which he underlined: „The fight has begun, we will persevere to the end, there is no surrender.“ The video then showed Janicijevic embracing the party’s president, Milos Jovanovic.
