The Party for Freedom and Justice (SSP) presented a proposal for a Declaration on the Reconciliation of the Serb and Albanian People yesterday. The proposal envisages the path toward solving people’s problems while leaving the status issue aside – „as it cannot be solved at this moment because of the completely opposite positions“ – this party wrote. On the other hand, the head of the Kosovo Office, Marko Djuric, described this declaration proposal as a „reconciliation of tycoons and terrorists“.
„This is an effective combination of a call for reconciliation, the promotion of good things from the common past and the removal of obstacles burdening the relations,“ the Vice-President of the Party for Freedom and Justice and the former head of the negotiation team with Pristina, Borko Stefanovic said.
The proposed declaration envisages the adoption of a series of protocols – on the cooperation of security and justice systems, freedom of movement, property rights issues, economic cooperation, cooperation in the field of culture, sport, media, education, and health care services. The declaration also states that the current political and historical moment requires a patient and long-term solution, and not a quick solution that threatens to cause conflicts in the Balkans.
He claimed that two „alienated oligarchies“ in Belgrade and Pristina cannot lead to reconciliation.
Stefanovic said that this document is „a clear direction of the movement of two peoples who do not want to be trapped in the trenches of hatred and never-ending disputes on whose view of the status is right.“
„Our assessment of the status of Kosovo and Metohija is known. We don’t want to represent it in this document as any element that will reject the opposite side as we are aware of their position on the status of Kosovo and Metohija,“ he added.
He noted that the document is a proposal and that it was „discussed in a type of public debate“ so that all helpful reactions could be adopted.
The head of the Party for Freedom and Justice, Dragan Djilas pointed out that the problems of people can be solved „collectively, if we are ready, open, willing to cooperate, of course, with the help of the international community,“ adding that the regimes in Belgrade and Pristina use the Kosovo problem for „internal political purposes“ .
„This will be the policy of the party I am leading when we are in power. We will insist on this being the starting point for further discussion,“ Djilas said about the declaration, stating that „life does not wait for politicians“ and that the problems that burden people’s lives, such as the freedom of movement, must be resolved “as soon as possible.”
Djuric: „They are taking the same position as Ramush Haradinaj“
The head of the Kosovo Office, Marko Djuric immediately reacted to this proposal for a Declaration on the Reconciliation of the Serb and Albanian People.
The Party for Freedom and Justice described Djuric’s reaction as „hysterical“ and as proof that „this regime uses the issue of the southern Serbian province exclusively for daily political purposes“.
The party estimated that if the government in Serbia had not been using Kosovo Serbs for daily political purposes in the past seven years, it would have presented a clear plan for Kosovo, and sought the support of the Serbian Parliament for it.
„Instead, we are witnesses of tabloid wars and madness that manifests itself in trains painted with frescoes and anti-civilization taxes introduced by Vucic’s coalition partners. Decisions of Belgrade and Pristina only damage the citizens, whether they are Albanians or Serbs. Our obligation is to provide the living standard that other European countries have to all citizens of Serbia while respecting the Constitution,“ they wrote in a statement.
They also urged government representatives to present their „superior plan“ to the public, but also to publicly read the Declaration on the Reconciliation of Two Peoples and „thus make it possible for Serbian citizens to make an assessment themselves on what is the right path for resolving the Kosovo issue“.
He estimated that this proposal is „a proposal for a declaration on the reconciliation of tycoons and terrorists.“Djuric told Pink TV that someone might say this is an overestimation, adding that he has no reason to explain „why some are tycoons and others are former KLA leaders“.
„It’s a political castle neither in the sky nor on the ground. They oppose resolving Kosovo’s status, yet they believe the status quo is not good. They are taking the same position as Ramush Haradinaj. So nothing should be changed and that is what it literally says,“ Djuric said.
He added that it is particularly controversial that the protocol on the freedom of movement was proposed by the same people who „introduced the administrative crossings Jarinje and Brnjak“ in 2011.
„This is being done by people who imposed IDs with Kosovar written on them to Kosovo Serbs,“ Djuric concluded.
