The Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci, awarded the Bush family and the three Bitici brothers. Thaci accompanied by Kosovo Prime Minister, Ramush Haradinaj and Foreign Minister, Behgjet Pacolli, is currently in US, where the UN General Assembly is taking place.
Thaci presented former Governor Bush with the Jubilary Tenth Anniversary of Independence, dedicated to the Bush family, for their “decisive contribution to the freedom and independence of Kosovo”.
“When your father spoke about the rights of the people of Kosovo, others could not even find Kosovo on the map,” said Thaci.
“For me and for the Bush family, this is an honour, which gives us many emotions. We are grateful to you personally and to the whole nation of Kosovo,” said Jeb Bush.
The “Hero of Kosovo” Order was awarded to the father of the Bitici brothers the day before.
The three Bitici brothers, American citizens and members of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army and the Atlantic „battalion“, were arrested in 1999 in central Serbia and later killed. So far no one has been held responsible for their murder.
“I have been awaiting this, this was my dream. I still think I am in a dream. Thanks for the honour, each and every one of you” said Ahmed Bitici, the father of the three Bitici brothers.
President Thaci also awarded the “Atlantic” battalion with the Jubilary Tenth Anniversary of the Independence of Kosovo Medal. The medal was received, on behalf of the soldiers, by the former KLA commander and the President of the “Atlantic” Association, Gani Shehu.
The ceremony was held at the Kosovo Consulate in New York.
