After the former head of the Kosovo Office, Marko Djuric announced in his farewell speech and on the eve of assuming the function of the Serbian ambassador to the USA that the Kosovo Office will be headed by his former assistant Petar Petkovic, Belgrade media reported today that Petkovic has officially replaced Djuric as the director of this office.
Petar Petkovic has been the assistant director of the Kosovo Office since 2016.
Petkovic received his bachelor degree from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in 2006. He completed his Master and Ph.D. studies at the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Belgrade. Petkovic graduated from the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2007.
He has been working as a research associate at the Institute for International Politics and Economics in Belgrade since 2007 – with a currently non-active status.
Petkovic has been a member of the SNS main board since 2017.
Prior to joining SNS, Petkovic was a DSS (Democratic Party of Serbia) MP from 2012 to 2014, while he served as an advisor in the Prime Minister’s Office from 2007 to 2008.
As a member of the DSS, Petkovic strongly advocated against the Brussels Agreement, criticizing the Serbian Constitutional Court, which declared itself incompetent to assess the constitutionality of the Brussels Agreement. He also strongly opposed local elections held in the north of Kosovo in November 2013 – the first elections held within the Kosovo system in the area. At that time, he assessed that those elections were a deception which represents the shutting down of Serbian institutions.
