The Kosovo commissioner of the Movement for the Defense of Kosovo and Metohija, Nebojsa Jović, announced that due to the latest threats he received „from a more than serious place“, he has to give up all political activities related to solving the Kosovo issue, reports Beta.
Jović, who lives in North Mitrovica, pointed out that in the last few months he received several warnings „to beware, that he could be removed, arrested or killed.“
„I inform the public that in a more than serious way, from a more than serious place, I received a warning that if I continue any political activity, both my safety and that of my loved ones are directly threatened,“ Jović stated on his Facebook page, without specifying from whom he received the threats.
He added that until now, no threat, „either of job loss, arrest, suspensions, the result of which can be both serious bodily injuries and life-threatening ones“, could scare him.
„But thats when it’s just my life in question. However, I would not want to risk or put the safety of my loved ones in real danger, checking whether the continuation of my political activities will in the most direct way confirm and realize the seriousness of the warnings, as I said, from a more than serious place, which are like the ‘last’ to me. sent,“ announced Jović.
In the first years of his return, Nebojša Jović was one of the closest associates of the murdered Serbian politician Oliver Ivanović, and the fact that the Serbs were not expelled from the north of Kosovo in 1999 can be attributed to him.
Jović was one of the leaders of the Serb protests on June 13, when M.M. was arrested, chanting „Treason, treason“ and insulting Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
He addressed the gathered citizens that day, and after that he called for a protest on Monday in front of the headquarters of the Srpska Lista. His withdrawal from politics was also preceded by unconfirmed reports of a physical attack on him.
In an interview with the Beta Agency on June 14th, Jović stated that the Srpska Lista lost its credibility and that it can no longer represent the Serbian people in Kosovo.
„Since 2013, we have suffered threats and blackmail from Belgrade. After all the barricades organized by Belgrade and Srpska lista and after every meeting of the National Security Council, the situation was getting worse and worse for the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija. All the actions undertaken by Srpska lista in order to allegedly provide resistance to Prishtina, proved to be pointless because all the directives came from Aleksandar Vučić,“ said Jović in an interview with Beta.
He pointed out that after the first barricades, the north of Kosovo was occupied by units of the special Kosovo police, after the second, special police bases were built, and after the third barricades, the north of Kosovo was completely occupied.
The Movement for the Defense of Kosovo and Metohija expressed its indignation at the threats sent to the Commissioner for Kosovo and Metohija, Nebojša Jović.
„What Jovic’s family is going through now will only deepen the respect he enjoys in the Movement and among his fellow citizens.“ And in the future, Nebojsa Jović and our Trusteeship of Kosovo and Metohija will be able to count on every support and help of the Movement for the Defense of Kosovo and Metohija,“ the movement announced.
