An 18-year-old ethnic Palestinian died today, most likely through a drowning incident in the Ibar River near the village of Kamenica in the Leposavic municipality. The young man was found in a vehicle which had been reported as stolen in the Zvecan municipality earlier in the day.
Rescue units and members of the Kosovo Police pulled out the young man’s body and the vehicle from the river tonight around 6 pm, the Deputy Director of the Kosovo Police for the North Mitrovica region, Besim Hoti told KoSSev.
„Today at around 13:40, a police patrol from Leposavic noticed a passenger car on the Ibar river bank in Kamenica – a white Volkswagen Golf with KM license plates. For the time being, we assume that the vehicle probably travelled from Zvecan in the direction of Leposavic before landing in the river. We assume that the vehicle was driven by the Palestinian man,” Hoti stated.
Doctors who examined the body described the death as “nonviolent”, while the case was registered as public traffic endangerment.
The forensic team from Pristina took the body for autopsy at around 20.00h.
It is assumed that the vehicle was stolen before the accident, the police station in Zvecan received a report at approximately 12:15h from the owner who said that his passenger vehicle had been stolen.
