Police operations are underway this morning in Zubin Potok and Zvecan in connection with the 2013 killing of an EULEX customs officer, according to Kallxo, citing its own sources.
Searches are being conducted at nine locations — seven in Zubin Potok and two in Zvecan — by investigators from the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Serious Offenses. The operation is being carried out under a court order and at the request of the Special Prosecution Office.
In a statement issued earlier today, investigators said the raids are related to suspicions of “endangering United Nations personnel or personnel associated with them, aggravated murder, and assault on an official during the performance of duty.”
KoSSev has repeatedly tried to contact the Kosovo Police for the Pristina region for comment but has not received a response. The police for the North region, meanwhile, said only that they are assisting units from Pristina without disclosing further details.
While Kosovo authorities have yet to comment officially, and unconfirmed reports about arrests continue to circulate on social media, the Serbian Government’s Office for Kosovo and Metohija claimed that seven Serbs have been detained.
Linked to the killing of Lithuanian EULEX customs officer
According to Kallxo, today’s operation is linked to the murder of Lithuanian customs officer Audrius Šenavičius, who was killed in September 2013. The outlet did not provide further details.
Šenavičius was fatally wounded on September 19, 2013, on the Mitrovica–Leposavic main road near Balaban, in the municipality of Zvecan, when two EULEX vehicles carrying six officials came under gunfire.
He later died of his injuries at the Health Center in North Mitrovica. The Lithuanian officer was the first EULEX member to be killed since the mission’s deployment.
The case remains unsolved. After EULEX’s judicial mandate ended in 2018, the investigation was transferred to Kosovo’s courts. In previous years, EULEX offered a reward of €82,000 for information leading to the perpetrators.
