The deputy president of the Serbian Democracy party, Stefan Veljković, resigned from his position a day after the elections, citing poor results in North Mitrovica.
“Due to unsatisfactory results in North Mitrovica, I am resigning from my party duties within the Serbian Democracy and withdrawing from politics,” wrote Veljković, a young politician known for his protests when ministers from Pristina paraded through northern Kosovo.
He thanked those who, as he put it, supported Serbian Democracy, adding a cryptic remark:
“Šojić used to say that people like to be ridden — maybe he was right.”
Veljković’s resignation came on the same day the vote counting began for the municipal assembly candidates, among whom he was also running.

Meanwhile, the party’s leader Aleksandar Arsenijević received 565 votes in North Mitrovica.
Arsenijević has been camping at the Jarinje crossing for days and has not been residing in Kosovo for an extended period.
Kosovo authorities are currently searching for him in connection with weapons found on his property. In late June, police discovered a large cache of weapons at his estate.
At the time, Arsenijević claimed the incident was staged and said that conditions for a fair trial in Kosovo “do not currently exist.”
