„The Football Federation of Kosovo is the only competent organization that organizes, manages and regulates football competitions throughout the territory of the Republic of Kosovo,“ therefore, the organization of „improvised competitions in the north of Kosovo is illegal“, the Football Federation of Kosovo (FFK) announced today.
FFK’s reaction arrives as a response to the news that FC Trepca from the north of Kosovo will be playing in the Serbian League West organized by the Football Association of Serbia.
The football club Trepca from the north of Kosovo recently announced that it has advanced to the next round of competitions organized by the Football Association of Serbia and that the club will be playing in the Serbian League West in the 2019/2020 season.
„For that reason, FFK is evaluating the illegal activities of unregistered clubs in state institutions and bodies and calling for an urgent end to such activities, which greatly endanger the reputation of FFK and the state,“ the FFK wrote in a statement on the other side.
The Football Federation of Kosovo underlined that “FC Trepca ’89, which competes in the Superleague of Kosovo and FC Trepca, which competes in the First Football League of Kosovo are the only clubs registered with this name in the state and sports institutions of Kosovo.”
They also stated they will discuss this issue with UEFA, adding that they will request a clarification from the Serbian Football Association because, in their words, „Serbia knows very well that organizing competitions in the territory of another UEFA member state is not allowed.“
FFK also demanded a reaction from Kosovo’s institutions – the President, the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Sports and the negotiation team for dialogue with Belgrade. They also stated that the Kosovo Police should react if such activities continue without the FFK’s permission.
The FFK emphasized they are „the only competent organization that organizes, manages and regulates football competitions throughout the territory of the Republic of Kosovo,“ recalling that Kosovo became a member of UEFA and FIFA in 2016.
This federation called on all clubs operating in the territory of Kosovo to register within the Kosovo system, and thus, participate in competitions and at the same time „guarantee security“ to those who participate in the „fair play of games“.
