Masked men threw rocks at a Klan Kosova media team at the barricade near the village of Cabra in Zubin Potok, this media outlet reported, while also sharing a video of the attack. The Kosovo Journalists Association reminded that this is not the first attack on journalists, calling on the competent authorities to take measures to protect media workers.
According to this media outlet, the attackers threw rocks and insulted the press team comprised of journalist Haris Ademi, cameraman Agon Bejtullahu, and driver Elsad Sinani.
They underlined that none of them were injured in the attack.
In the meantime, the Kosovo Journalists Association (AGK) said in a statement that they are „very concerned about the safety of their colleagues reporting from the north of the country.“
This association noted that this is the third attack on journalists, and that their safety is threatened.
„AGK once again calls on the competent authorities to take measures to protect journalists, and at the same time, we ask that they make it possible for them to carry out their tasks unhindered.“
This is the fourth attack on journalists since the crisis in the north of Kosovo broke out, caused by Pristina’s decision to introduce re-registration in phases, which was followed by a mass withdrawal of Serbs from Kosovan institutions.
The first attack happened on November 17th, when a cameraman of the Insajderi portal, Jetmir Muji was attacked while filming an ambulance giving medical assistance to a boy who was attacked earlier that day, the Kosovo Police said.
The second attack took place on December 9th. The Pristina-based Kallxo press team stated that they were attacked in North Mitrovica, at the intersection near the Technical Secondary School, while reporting about the deployment of the Kosovo Police in this town. They also published a video of the said attack.
Kallxo stated that two people were in the vehicle – producer Valdet Salihu and journalist Shkodrane Dakaj – at the moment unknown persons threw hard objects at them.
A day later, according to the AGK, an explosive device was detonated near the media teams of RTV Dukagjini, T7, ATV, Klan Kosova, and KTV at the barricades in Rudare.
AGK reacted, expressing shock and concern over these attacks. The attacks were also condemned by the Journalists’ Association of Serbia, as well as its Kosovo branch.
The SafeJournalists network, which represents more than 8,200 media workers in the Western Balkans, also condemned physical violence against media workers, calling for the perpetrators to be adequately punished.
