The windows of four Serb-owned shops, situated on Knjaza Milosa Street in North Mitrovica, were broken last night. One of the shop owners says that he believes someone had smashed them intentionally. The head of the Kosovo Office, Petar Petkovic, called on KFOR and UNMIK to protect the Serbs.
The shops in question are located at the very entrance to Bosniak Mahala, near the Technical Secondary School, where members of the Kosovo Police are stationed.
The owner of one of the shops confirmed for KoSSev that one of his Albanian neighbors informed him this morning that his shop windows were smashed.
„The neighbors say that a detonation was heard here at around 3 o’clock last night. This is not the result of a detonation,“ he stressed.
Upon arriving at the scene, he discovered that apart from the material damage (the broken windows), nothing was taken from the store.
At the same time, he noticed that in addition to his shop, the windows of three nearby shops were also broken.
„The windows of a shop next to me and across the street were also smashed, as well as of a shop nearby. That’s a total of four shops,“ he reveals.
He adds that he has not filed a report with the police, nor does he plan to do so.
„No, no, I have no one to report this to. Let this be the end of it,“ he added.
Kosovo police are opening a case
The Kosovo Police of the region north confirmed for KoSSev in the meantime that their officers are investigating the scene.
They also confirmed that they found broken windows at the scene and that a case will be opened. The prosecutor has been informed about the case.
In the meantime, the head of the Kosovo Office, Petar Petkovic reacted, placing the blame on the broken shop windows on Pristina.
„Kurti’s extremists are not even allowing the Serbs to celebrate St. Nicholas in peace,“ he underlined, adding that „he and his thugs in police uniforms are moving further away from a peaceful solution to the situation in the north of the province.“
According to Petkovic, violence against communities and people begins precisely with attacks on their property.
„That is why UNMIK and KFOR must urgently protect the Serbs and their property in Kosovo because history does not forgive indifference in situations like this,“ he said.
