Former Kosovo Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj condemned the incident, which took place just over three hours ago on the northern side of the Ibar bridge in Mitrovica , when a 17-year underage ethnic Serb D.B. was injured in a clash between Serb and Albanian youths. D.B., the boy, has just undergone operation after being stabbed.
„I strongly condemn the case of the beating and stabbing of a young Serb on the Ibar river bridge. I urge the judicial authorities to clarify the case quickly and proceed them in order to receive the deserved punishment. Kosovo is a state for all its citizens and has always been an example of tolerance and diversity. Such procedures are isolated cases and will never endanger peace and security in the country! „- said the Prime Minister of Kosovo, in a statement forwarded to KoSSev by the Spokeswoman Donjeta Gashi.
The incident occurred around 18:00h tonight, beside the Ibar bridge, on the northern side, as Serb and Albanian groups clashed. North Mitrovica police major Besim Hoti confirmed the information upon citing witness statements, adding that Albanian youths then fled south. Police are reviewing security camera footage to determine the circumstances.
The teenager who will soon to be 18, was stabbed with a sharp object in the right side of his stomach, Police Lieutenant Branislav Radovic told KoSSev earlier this evening.
The president of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic shared the information from North Mitrovica Hospital director Milan Ivanovic, that the injured boy had gone under surgery tonight, and that the surgery was complicated by other injuries – a bruised rib and damaged arteries.
Unlike Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Vucic has a different perspective on the security situation and the mood of the majority population in Mitrovica.
He linked the incident to the „anti-Serb and anti-Belgrade approach“ of campaigning Albanian politicians saying also that Albanians are obsessed by North Mitrovica.
„On such occasions, when you spread the emotion of hatred towards the Serbian people, such incidents are more than possible,“ he said, adding:
„That is why I was saying how dangerous it was to open just that bridge on the Ibar, as the wish of the Albanians was only the north of Kosovo and exactly King Peter Street.“
Nevertheless, he also agreed with the police’s assessment that one should wait and see the footage to determine the exact circumstances, although he claimed that the injured boy had been lured in prior to the incident.
