An underage ethnic Serb was stabbed in the immediate vicinity of the Ibar bridge in North Mitrovica this afternoon, Kosovo Police spokesperson, Branislav Radovic confirmed for KoSSev.

Radovic said that the North Mitrovica Hospital Center informed the police about the incident after the injured teenager checked himself into the hospital.

According to information the hospital center provided to the police, D.B. (born in 2001) sustained abdominal injuries by a sharp object. Additional information, however, will be available after closer examination and after he receives medical treatment.

The investigative and forensic team came to the scene, while the Regional Investigation Unit was also informed about the incident.

The Kosovo Police did not provide any further details so far. KoSSev unofficially revealed that other persons involved in the incident, as well as the parents of the injured young man, have given statements to the police.

According to the first unofficial information from the field – from several sources, the incident allegedly occurred after a brief verbal confrontation between a group of ethnic Serb youths with a group of Albanians – who crossed the bridge from South Mitrovica. The incident occurred near a car wash on the left side of the bridge.

A similar incident occurred in 2015 when a young man, also of Serb ethnicity, was stabbed by a person wearing a hood from the southern part of the city.
