Last night, US Ambassador to Pristina, Greg Delawie, condemned interethnic violence in Kosovo, but also the unfounded accusations of organized campaigns of violence, which raise tensions, he claimed. At the same time, he said that peace and reconciliation are the only way forward for multi-ethnic Kosovo.
„I condemn recent acts of interethnic violence and unfounded accusations of organized campaigns of violence, which only raise tensions. Peace and reconciliation are the only way forward for multi-ethnic Kosovo,“ he twitted.
Delawie also sent a message regarding the resignation of eight Serb KSF members from this Kosovo Security formation:
„[I am] deeply concerned about the recent resignations of Kosovo Serb members of the KSF. External intimidation of KSF members is unacceptable. KSF’s diversity is a model for this country. It should be celebrated, not destroyed.“
Twenty-year-old ethnic Serb N.D. was stabbed on the night between Wednesday and Thursday in Priluzje village, and he is currently in a stable condition at the Health Center in North Mitrovica. He sustained injuries to the chest area, his left and right side, as well as the back area. According to a preliminary police investigation, he was stabbed by an ethnic Albanian in a fight which involved at least two Serbs and two Albanians. The main suspect was arrested immediately – Deputy Kosovo Police Director for Mitrovica South Nusret Mehmeti confirmed for KoSSev, adding that at that moment the incident could not be qualified as inter-ethnic.
The day before yesterday, the Head of Kosovo Office Marko Djuric said in an immediate reaction after recent attacks on A.J. in Suvi Do and the young ethnic Serb in Priluzje, „it is quite clear that campaigns of violence against Serbs are underway“, adding that “ it is yet another confirmation of the failure of the international community to establish rule of law and conditions for a safe and dignified life of Serbian people in Kosovo“.
