The head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Michael Davenport, visited Pec/Peja, Istok and the monastery of Visoki Decani yesterday – on World Day for Cultural Diversity.

The visit arrives just after the fifth anniversary of the Constitutional Court’s decision to return the land to the monastery – when western ambassadors reminded that this decision had not been implemented yet.

In several letters to multiple agencies and representatives, top Kosovo officials also claimed that the monastery is not endangered. They also called on the monastery to be removed from the list of endangered.

Last night, Albin Kurti published a joint letter with Vjosa Osmani and Glauk Konjufca addressed to UNESCO. On the World Day of Cultural Diversity, these top Kosovo officials asked that the „endangered heritage“ label is removed from four monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo. They also called on to list Kosovo as the responsible state party for them instead of Serbia as it was so far. Red more in:

Kurti, Osmani, Konjufca wrote to UNESCO to remove 4 monasteries from the list of endangered and that Serbia is not responsible for them

Following the meeting with the Abbot of Decani, Sava Janjic, the head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Michael Davenport expressed expectation that the land will soon be registered as monastery property.

“Ambassador Michael Davenport visited beautiful Decani Monastery and spoke to Abbot Sava Janjic. OSCE Kosovo will support the Serbian Orthodox Church to preserve its cultural and religious heritage in Kosovo while we expect adjacent land to be registered as Monastery property in line with rule of law,” OSCE Kosovo tweeted.

In Istok, for the returnee village of Ljubozda, the OSCE donated surveillance cameras to the police to increase the security of the locals. While visiting the mayor of Pec/Peja, Gazmend Muhaxhiri, he emphasized the OSCE assistance in building a safe house.
