Global Firepower has published this year’s ranking of national armed forces across the globe. Serbia and Kosovo recorded better results compared to last year. While the Serbian Army took 58th place this year, KSF ranked 134th.
The final ranking was formed based on more than 60 individual factors, such as the number of military units, financial situation, logistics capacity, and geographical location.
For this year, Global Firepower reviewed a total of 145 military forces worldwide.
The United States of America ranked first, while the South Asia country of Bhutan took last place.
Russia came in second place, followed by China, India, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Pakistan, Japan, France and Italy.
When it comes to the region, Serbia ranked the highest, taking the 58th place.
Croatia ranked 69th, Albania – 91st, North Macedonia – 108th, Montenegro – 128th, Bosnia and Herzegovina – 133rd, while Kosovo ranked 134th.
The Serbian president also commented on the new ranking of the Serbian military yesterday.
„That is not news for us, it was expected. Are you attacking me now because we are the first in the region or are you criticizing me because we are arming ourselves?“ the president said during a guest appearance on TV Pink.
He praised Croatia, stating that it has a „terribly strong army“.
On the other hand, Vucic went on to accuse the Kosovo PM of wanting to „attack“ countries in the region.
While boasting about the strength of the Serbian army, he alleged that if that were not the case, Kurti would have attacked Serbia many times.
“Just look at him and his ideology. He would not only attack Serbia proper, but North Macedonia and Montenegro as well, and the question is what would happen to Albania.”
He says that it is up to Serbia to preserve the people, the country and peace, but also to always strengthen its army.
“Our army today is much stronger than it was, but we have to protect ourselves because we are the only non-NATO country in the region. And if we want to preserve our military neutrality, we have to consider the level of our own strength,” he concluded.
While the Prime Minister of Kosovo has yet to address the Serbian President’s accusation, however, he did say in late June that they „are not strengthening the army to attack someone, but to protect ourselves“.
„No one is naive enough to believe Kurti’s fabrications about some sort of ‘defensive reasons’ for arming members of the so-called Kosovo Security Forces, when no one is threatening him,“ the head of the Kosovo Office, Petar Petkovic, said in response to Kurti’s statement at the time.
Since coming to power, Kurti has often spoken about the progress of the KSF, citing both the achievements of its members in terms of education and training, as well as investment in these forces. In January, he said that KSF’s budget in 2022 was doubled compared to the previous year, while in 2023, it increased by 20%.
The Kosovo Ministry of Defense announced recently that the number of KSF members increased by 1,836 in two years, but also that they invested in modern weapons and training.
„Increase in numbers, modern weapons and adequate training. Our army is homeland security!“, this ministry said.
When it comes to the new weapons and equipment for the KSF, last month it was announced that this formation acquired Turkish-made Bayraktar drones TB-2.
