„This is a humane and important job, primarily because in this way we reduce unemployment, we help our women, and at the same time we help the elderly – and there are over 400 of them, who are alone and unable to take care of themselves,“ the head of the Kosovo Office said, underlining that Serbia is here to take care of them.

Petkovic clarified that these contracts can be extended and that the project is being realized in cooperation between the Kosovo Office and the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs of the Republic of Serbia.

The celebration of the anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Zvecan then continued in the Trepca Community Center, which began with the screening of a documentary film about the founding, existence and development of this municipality. After the documentary, the certificates of merit were awarded.

In addition to Petkovic, today’s event was attended by Bishop Teodosije of Raska-Prizren and Kosovo-Metohija, President of the Provisional Authority of Zvecan Municipality, Ivan Todosijevic, Mayor of Zvecan, Vucina Jankovic, as well as Igor Simic, Slavko Simic, Zoran Mojsilovic, Miljana Nikolic and other officials.

The first Petrovdan (St. Peter’s Day) recognition was awarded to the Diocese of Raska and Prizren, and received by Bishop Teodosije.

„Long-lived trees make roots first, this can be clearly seen here when it comes to the diocese, residents and institutions, and North Mitrovica, which I cannot separate from Zvecan. In recent years, we have achieved significant results with the help of the Kosovo Office, the Government of the Republic of Serbia and all our friends, and we are proud of that,“ said the bishop.

Bishop Teodosije said that we should „move forward with everything that is for the benefit of the people, for survival and everything that we need to preserve.“

Petar Petkovic, i.e. the Kosovo Office, also received a recognition.

„Today, I wore a badge with the coat of arms of the municipality of Zvecan on my lapel, because where else can Zvecan be but in our hearts. It is my honor and pleasure to be with you on this great holiday, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of this wonderful municipality together. The municipality is known not only for the fortress on the Zvecan hill but also for the numerous fortresses woven in your souls, the fortresses of the spirit of freedom, with which you have been defending your Zvecan since the time of the Nemanjics,“ he said.

He also noted that „regardless of the fact that the flags displayed on the Zvecan fortress have changed since the Ottoman Empire, in the end, the Serbian tricolor has always flown and will fly for many centuries to come.“

The Petrovdan certificates of merit were also awarded to the Vice President of Srpska Lista, Milan Radoicic, the Hospital Center in North Mitrovica, Dr. Vukan Jovanovic, academic Dr. Zoran Krivokapic, as well as the Municipality of Stara Pazova.

The Provisional Authority of the municipality of Zvecan also handed out a special certificate of merit to those who contributed to the development of the municipality.

The Health Center in Zvecan, the director of Rajska Banja, the Tourist Organization of the municipality, and young athletes received these certificates. A cash prize of 15,000 dinars and a certificate of merit was awarded to the best students of the generation from four schools in Zvecan municipality.

Finally, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, was declared an honorary citizen of Zvecan for his work on strengthening the standards of the municipality and citizens, for supporting the development of the municipality of Zvecan, and on the occasion of St. Peter’s Day and the anniversary of the municipality of Zvecan.

Petkovic received this recognition on behalf of the president and read the thank you letter Vucic wrote.

„For me, this award has a special value and importance, as it comes as a confirmation of what we are doing for our people, building the Serbia of the future. Everything we are building in Kosovo is our foundation for the future in this area. Thank you, brothers and sisters, and starting from today, dear neighbors, for making me a citizen of the proud and tough Zvecan. Whatever wicked tongues may say, as was the case so far, Kosovo will be the first thought I have when I open my eyes in the morning, and the last thought when I close my eyes in the evening. As long as my word and will are respected, only the flag of the Serbian tricolor will be displayed from Zvecan, because if Zvecan is not Serbia – then what is,“ reads the president’s letter.

In the letter, Vucic emphasized that he would continue to fight every day and everywhere for the citizens and for every child in Kosovo to have peaceful sleep.

„And for no tears to roll down the cheek of our dear Nikola Peric again because of evil people,“ he concluded.
