Today marks exactly fourteen months since GI SDP leader, Oliver Ivanovic was killed in front of the premises of his party. Despite the fact that both Belgrade and Pristina are conducting investigations, the instigators and the perpetrators of this murder still remain unknown. The GI SDP party stated that „the investigation is going nowhere“ and that „someone wants the murder to be covered up and forgotten“.
„While we are publicly witnessing statements of some ambassadors who unequivocally demand that the murder of Oliver Ivanovic is resolved and that the authorities work more efficiently in combating crime and corruption, GI SDP once again reminds all relevant institutions of the obligation to shed light on the murder of Oliver Ivanovic“ – GI SDP wrote in a statement.
Politicians from Belgrade and Pristina are fiercely accusing each other – the party stated.
„Despite the statements of the Prosecution from Belgrade and Pristina, it appears that the investigation is going nowhere,“ the GI SDP stressed, adding:
„The perpetrators of this crime are still at large. Someone wants the murder to be covered up and forgotten.“
GI SDP called on international institutions to deal with „all other serious crimes and severe deprivation of basic human rights“.
In this way, we are convinced that international institutions will show their readiness to protect basic human rights, primarily the right to life
Ahead of the 14-month anniversary since the murder, shocking accusations were exchanged between the highest officials from Pristina and Belgrade, who also listed the names of the alleged instigators and perpetrators of this murder.
Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci and Minister of Justice, Abelard Tahiri accused the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic of being the instigator and Vice-President of Srpska Lista, Milan Radoicic of being the perpetrator of this murder.
„Those are political statements, I do not have such information,“ a Kosovo Special Prosecutor in the investigation of Oliver Ivanovic’s murder, Sylë Hoxha told KoSSev last night. He also called on them to report any information they may have and emphasized that the proceedings are being conducted against four people, although there is still not enough evidence to issue an indictment.
On the other hand, the head of the Kosovo Office, Marko Djuric stated yesterday that Belgrade „is increasingly certain that Thaci, Veseli and the Kosovo authorities stand directly behind the murder of Oliver Ivanovic,“ while Serbian Minister of Justice, Nela Kuburovic emphasized that “there is certainly a political background to the murder of Oliver Ivanovic,” and that “Pristina’s refusal to cooperate with the Serbian prosecution” shows “the legal and factual merits” of the charges coming from Belgrade.
The Serbian Interior Minister, Nebojsa Stefanovic said that „the culprits and prosecutors should not be sought among the Serbs“, adding that Serbia is a serious country, and that it will come out with „more information“ when all indications and allegations could be proved.
However, he also pointed out that „it is obviously Pristina’s imperative to conceal killers and instigators“ and estimated that „if someone is constantly hiding the culprits then the perpetrator of this crime is probably hiding there.“
Since the day of Ivanovic’s murder to date, Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Thaci have announced concrete deadlines for revealing information on the murder on several occasions.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced two months ago in the studio of the ‘Cirilica’ show that the results of the investigation into the murder of Oliver Ivanovic will be known after the anniversary of the murder.
„I asked our investigative authorities to wait for the anniversary to pass to avoid being told that we are distracting the public and deceiving the people in Serbia in order to avoid some kind of protest and so on,“ Vucic said, adding that he would speak his mind about it „more openly than ever before“ and that he will talk about Ivanovic’s murder and investigation „at great length“.
