„The situation on the ground is such that things are heating up among the Serbs both in the north and the south,“ Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said last night, declaring that the Kosovo Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, is to blame for this turn of events. Vucic also claimed that he was surprised by the fact that the Serbs set up barricades a week ago.
After meeting with the US special envoy Gabriel Escobar yesterday, the president revealed that this US official also noticed that things are „heating up.“
„Escobar himself told me that he noticed this while talking to all Serbs and representatives of the non-governmental sector,“ said Vucic.
The president once again repeated that he had nothing to do with the barricades set up by the Serbs in the north of Kosovo.
„And it’s not like someone ordered them to do that – as some people in Europe claimed: ‘Vucic ordered them to put up barricades’. I had no idea that they were going to put up barricades. I told them to stop lying. I was literally as surprised as everyone else, but I know and I’ve been watching it for weeks and months. I know the situation is heating up. I know that people will no longer suffer Kurti’s terror,“ said Vucic.
He added that after a series of incidents against Serbs in the previous period, Kurti’s statement that forming the ASM is „a foolish fancy“ came as “a cherry on top of a cake.”
According to him, whenever international representatives tell him that „there is no Albanian government that will form the ASM“, the president responds with: „And what concern is it to me – did you sign that agreement.”
He added that Pristina failed to fulfill what was agreed for 10 years, and is now asking for the Serbs to return to the institutions.
“Why don’t you just form the ASM, and Serbs will return to the institutions.“
He underlined, however, that Serbia cannot count on fair treatment.
„It is useless to wait for justice.“
On behalf of the Serbs from the north, the president then repeated their demands for solving the situation – one of them being the release of the Serbs who were recently arrested, including a former policeman.
He says it won’t be a problem for the Serbs to be under house arrest until „the senseless trials against them are finished“.
When asked ‘where is Dejan Pantic now’, Vucic replied that he knows he is alive but that he is not aware of his condition.
On the other hand, the Serb president says that the head of EULEX should be aware of this – the same person „whose job it is to know this and who said he has no idea where Pantic is“.
The second request of the Serbs is that special units and security forces, especially those armed with firearms, are not allowed to go to the North without the consent of the mayors and KFOR.
Vucic then presented photos of uniformed members of the KP with firearms, stating that they were taken in North Mitrovica and Zvecan three days ago.
He revealed that the international community responds to this by saying „it is not a special ROSU unit, but a specialized unit for I don’t know what“.
„Who are you making fools of? It’s not ROSU, it’s FITO, it’s not ROSU, it’s NJSO, it’s not NJSO, it’s MSL,“ adds Vucic.
As for the third request of the Serbs, he stated that „there should be no arrest list for the people who were on the barricades and opposed their lawlessness in June and September.“
„There are 78 of them on that secret list, which has become semi-public,“ said the Serbian president.
He notes that the Serbs are only asking for what was agreed upon, that it is a matter of basic demands.
Albanians now making the same mistakes as we did in the 90s
Vucic compared what Pristina is doing now to what Serbia did to Albanians in the 1990s:
„Thinking that we are very smart and that we should isolate the Albanians in Kosovo – that’s what they are doing today. All the same mistakes we made, only in a much more brutal way. ‘We will find the Rasics, the Trajkovics, the Bogdanovics, who no one supports. I will give you money and you will bribe the Serbs’. How wrong they are – they can buy a hundred, no more than that.“
„He says that through his agents and wretches who do not represent anyone, he will destroy Serbian politics, the Serbs in all of Kosovo, that he will be able to rule in the most normal way,“ adds the Serbian president, without specifying who is the “he” he was talking about.
He also commented on EULEX’s claims that their unit was attacked with a shock bomb not far from the barricades near Rudare, saying that the use of shock bombs „has not been proven by anybody“.
„However, I begged all Serbs, and I am begging them as their president, not to attack the international forces and not to give them ammunition,“ Vucic reiterated.
He says that in all these conditions, Serbia must be smart and strong enough, serious, responsible, persistent, and patient, but also willing to compromise.
The president also said that he will preserve peace and stability „at almost any cost“.
„We want to preserve peace and stability, and I don’t want to say the word war. But if someone kills our children, the weak, women, people who cannot oppose them, of course, we will not sit idly by like some did in 2004 and 2008 and every time a tragedy struck our people,“ he concluded.
