Eleven more people from the north of Kosovo tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Kosovo Serb communities to 69 (two of whom passed away), an epidemiologist, Aleksandar Antonijevic said at a press conference today. The increased number of confirmed cases is the result of an increase in testing and monitoring contacts. The patients are in stable condition. The situation in the public health in the north is completely stable, the acting deputy director of the North Mitrovica Hospital Center, Zlatan Elek confirmed.
Four new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Zubin Potok, 3 in Zvecan, 2 in North Mitrovica and 2 in Leposavic.
So far, a total of 29 cases have been confirmed in North Mitrovica (one patient passed away), 18 in Zvecan, 13 in Zubin Potok and 8 in Leposavic (one patient passed away), and one case in Gracanica.
„All patients are in stable condition,” the acting deputy director of the North Mitrovica Hospital Center, Zlatan Elek said, adding that four patients have been cured so far.
So far, 544 samples have been tested. An increase in the number of confirmed cases is the result of increased testing, epidemiologist Antonijevic added.
Mother and 15-day-old baby transferred to Belgrade
A mother and her newborn baby also tested positive for coronavirus. They are in stable condition and have been transferred to Belgrade, Elek said.
He emphasized that the mother had a normal delivery and that she showed symptoms of COVID-19 only after returning to the hospital approximately ten days later.
The situation in the public health system in the north is completely stable, Elek confirmed, adding that for the time being, there are enough doctors and medicine to treat the infected.
“We are one of the few hospitals in Serbia to use chloroquine in the treatment of COVID-19 patients,” he added.
Both Antonijevic and Elek agreed that coronavirus testing had begun on time.
