Vucic on the recognition of Kosovo: My answer has not changed

Time can change, everything can change, but my answer about the recognition of Kosovo has not changed, and it will not change, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said today.

When asked to comment on yesterday’s statement of Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, that Serbia’s recognition of Kosovo should be connected with Kosovo becoming a UN member, Vucic replied that there is “nothing new in what Kurti is saying.”

„I heard it a million times. If he thinks, through humiliation and daily statements, via which they disparage our country and speak of our obligations, explain to us what a great democracy they are, and how we are a meaningless and incompetent country, just say – fine, look at the numbers and everything will be made clear,“ Vucic said.

Addressing Kurti’s request for Kosovo’s recognition, the president underlined that he answered that question in Brussels, remarking that his answer has not changed.

“Time can change, everything can change, the strength of our army can change, the economic strength can change, but my answer about the recognition of Kosovo has not changed and it will not change.”

Following the latest round of dialogue held on June 15th in Brussels, Vucic said that the two sides did not agree on anything and that Kurti just came to ask him ‘when are you going to recognize Kosovo’. „I never told – never and then he exploded,“ the president said at the time.

The President of Serbia attended a military exercise of the Serbian Army in Pester today. In addition to members of the Serbian Army and top officials, KFOR Commander Major General Franco Federici also attended the military exercise.

Vucic said that he was very pleased that Federici attended the exercise, adding that Serbia must cooperate with KFOR units.

More than 200 soldiers who were stationed at Kosare in 1999 also attended the military exercise.
