The International North City Jazz & Blues Festival begins today.  Bands and musicians from four continents will perform in the next five days in North Mitrovica and Zvecan, but the opening concert will take place in the south of Ibar River.

The festival will be opened by a Turkish band Blues Attack at 20h at the Rock School in South Mitrovica. The band will repeat its performance on Wednesday, May 15th in the Soho Bar, located in the northern part of Mitrovica.

A Belgrade soul sextet will perform on thr same day at noon at the Incognito bar, in North Mitrovica as well.

A James Brown Tribute band will play the well-known songs of this soul icon at 22.30h on Wednesday in Soho bar again, where the band Ming will perform the very next day, May 16th at 9 pm. Ming are a vocal jazz band from Belgrade, whose singer Milica Dobric is a Mitrovica-native. Dobric opened this festival back in 2011.

The festival will then continue in the grand hall of the Cultural Center „Trepca“ in Zvecan, where Igor Vince & His Drum, Brass And Keys will perform on May 17th at 21h. This mixed band consists of performers from Serbia, Cuba, and Brazil.

Igor Vince’s music is characterized by an interesting combination of two sensibilities – on the one hand, very emotional and relaxing ballads, and on the other hand, very rhythmic and explosive tracks.

„We forgot to love, to tend, to appreciate,“ Igor says.

On the same evening, from 22:30h, a guest from London – Jo Harman will also perform in the same hall. Harman’s signature music style represents a fusion of rock, pop, and blues.

On the last festival night, performers from Brazil and Louisiana, USA, the Igor Willcox Quartet – a combined band will entertain the audience starting from 21h, followed by Jonathon Long.

In addition to announcing the festival, the organizers provided details on the concerts and the accompanying cultural program at a press conference held yesterday.

„Every year, we try to organize, apart from the music program, a suitable cultural program, performances, acting, and painting during the festival. For the second year now, we have an art colony Kolektivne slike (Collective Paintings), when three or four artists gather around one canvas and draw, using their personal technique, independently from each other. While striving for joint creativity, they also create their own painting,“ one of the organizers, Vasilj Adzic explained.

This festival is also known for its famous jam sessions which are rarely organized in this part of Europe. Many fans of this music claim that they find the greatest enjoyment in these club parties, believing that musicians have a stronger personal artistic expression in more intimate gatherings.

Jam sessions will be held in the clubs „Krim“ and „Amnesia“ in North Mitrovica – during the introductory part of the festival, while later jam sessions often start spontaneously.

The pilot project Lake stage Gazivode is making a return appearance this year. The legendary Leb i Sol band from Macedonia will officially close the festival on Sunday, May 19th at 16h.

All fans of this festival can expect a surprise on May 16th – the organizers announced yesterday, without revealing any details.

They stressed that they are satisfied with this year’s performers, especially in the light of the fact that they faced a reduced budget.

„These are some of the hardest days,“ they said, speaking about their efforts to raise enough funds to maintain the quality of the festival.

The organizer of the Jazz and Blues festival in Kosovska Mitrovica are AZP and Union M from Kosovska Mitrovica, while the long-time technical co-organizer is the Pristina Student Center.

The list of sponsors and supporters of this festival are numerous. The KoSSev portal is one of the media sponsors.

Let’s enjoy the music and culture in the upcoming days!
