Two Kosovo ministers visited the north yesterday – Xhelal Svecla and Elbert Krasniqi. Namely, they paid a visit to the police station in North Mitrovica and Mayor Erden Atic, as well as several other places. They also drove around the sites of three buildings under construction, located near the sports hall and the bus station, where works have been recently suspended by the Kosovo authorities.
The Minister of Internal Affairs and the Minister of Local Government and Public Administration were welcomed by the deputy commander of the region north, Veton Elshani, described by Svecla as „acting regional director“, while in the premises of the municipality, they were met by Mayor Erden Atic.
„The credibility that has been formed toward the police and the security toward citizens provided by our police officers is reflected in the efficient reporting and handling of cases. The police undoubtedly remain the most reliable institution and daily influence the increase in the perception of safety in all communities, and this is recently proven by the responses of our Serb citizens in credible international reports, where an increase of 18.61% compared to November last year was recorded,“ Svecla stated.

They also paid a visit to Atic, who accompanied them, together with Elshani, to Bosniak Mahala and wild landfills.
„The municipality treats the release of public areas that have been occupied for years and the creation of usable space for citizens as a priority.“ In the meantime, the safety, health and well-being of the citizens in that municipality still remain our common priority at the central and local level,“ Svecla announced.
He did not provide any additional details or information about the visit, which he informed the public about late last night by sharing photos and an announcement on Facebook.
In the meantime, a video showing Kosovo police near the sports hall appeared on some Telegram pages. The Kosovo Online portal, in a text entitled „While children are playing in the sports hall, officers in plain clothes, search a field“, reported that citizens were upset by their presence.
Elshani, however, confirmed for KoSSev that it was actually a visit of the two ministers, and that the video shows the ministers and the mayor along with police security. When asked what they were looking for there, he said that they were interested in that part of the town. „They wanted to see the road and what’s located in that part,“ he added, without further details. The minister did not stay there long, but just drove by.
UNDP report
Measuring the „pulse of the public“ from April 5 to April 25, covering 1,306 people in Kosovo over the age of 18 (896 Albanians, 210 Serbs and 200 members of other communities), UNDP wrote the following in its report:
„The ethnically categorized data showed that overall, there is an increase in the perception of safety in all communities. Compared to November 2022, there was an increase of 2.2% among Kosovo Albanians, an increase of 18.61% among Kosovo Serbs and an increase of 8.5% among other Kosovo communities, when it comes to their perception of security when they are on the street.”
The Prime Minister of Kosovo as well as the President previously boasted about these data, which Minister Svecla mentioned last night, although he did not name the author of the report.
