More than a thousand Serbs from the north of Kosovo attended a protest rally organised by Srpska Lista today in North Mitrovica to mark, as was announced, the „2000 days“ since the Association/Community of Serb-majority Municipalities was supposed to be formed according to the Brussels Agreement. „In popular jubilee“, „2000 days and 2000 lies“, „2000 missed chances“ described the Srpska Lista leaders of the time that has passed. The rally was organised close to the Ibar bridge. They called for a dignified and peaceful rally, while delivering inspirational speeches. The theme recently re-entered Serbian political narratives after it was pushed out for several months to be replaced by delimitation, i.e. land swap talks.
„You know well that in the past five years we have been trying to solve problems at the table and not in the street, that when conflict arises, we politicians will be ahead of you, and not as it used to be. Always with our people and never behind them,“ said the Kosovo Mayor of North Mitrovica Goran Rakic who is formally the first man of Srpska Lista.
When Serbs and their rights are concerned, there is no right or justice, there are no guarantees from the European Union, lamented the first in command.
He went further on, accusing the international community of hypocrisy.
„From Europe nothing can be heard, perhaps only some white noise,“ says Rakic.
He also addressed his colleagues at a central level in Pristina:
„The gentleman from Pristina, the Serbian people did not enter this process to act as if they were standing at a buffet and then you pick and choose what to take and implement from the Agreement.“
This leader encouraged the people: We will never give up and we shall form the Community of Serbian Municipalities.
His deputy Igor Simic claimed the existence of having a no-Serbs-deal, supporting it by the facts on fleeing of Serbs from Djakovica and Prizren.
However, he offered the comfort:
„Thanks to a wise policy, above all – of President Vucic, but also of the Srpska Lista, that is being led by Goran Rakic and all members, we managed not to respond to provocations, as the enemies of the Serbian people would want us to, that is sometimes, to be bold and sometimes crazy. We made it possible to change what was most difficult to ourselves – that is to be wise and patient, and this patience has its end. “
This truth seeker spoke of „lies“ he has been listening to at various meetings, „from Brussels to Pristina“:
„There, often, at international meetings, some of the self-styled leaders of the international community ask us how we evaluate this Brussels process. You know, we are always straight forward, you know, integration is a beautiful thing, but Pristina thinks of it as the assimilation of the Serbian people, which was not possible even under bombs, bullets, and will not be able even at present.“
No people, nor even Serbian, wants to be defeated. Simic conveyed a message about those „embassies whose countries fought against Serbia in the two world wars“ that they could not humiliate the Serbian people, although „a heroic 19 fighters fighting against one“.
Finally he called for peace and wisdom finishing with the famous Mitrovica graffiti: This is the final front line, we retreat no further.
Srpska Lista representatives from the south of Kosovo – minister Dalibor Jevtic and mayor of Gracanica Srdjan Popovic also spoke. No increased police or KFOR presence was seen.
