Six years ago yesterday, Dimitrije Janicijevic, a councilor of the Independent Liberal Party (SLS) in the North Mitrovica MA and a candidate for mayor, was killed in North Mitrovica. The instigator and perpetrators have yet to be found. On the fourth anniversary of Janicijevic’s murder, his close friend, Oliver Ivanovic, a two-time candidate for mayor of North Mitrovica, was also assassinated.

Janicijevic was killed on January 16th, 2014 with multiple shots in front of his house on Rudarske cete Street in North Mitrovica where he lived with his family.

Oliver Ivanovic was among those who paid their last respects to the tragically injured Janicijevic.

„A little violence creates more violence and ends in murder. But those who are in power, those who make the decisions, who were chosen do so and who were are appointed and paid to do so should think about it,” Ivanovic said at the cemetery while bidding a final farewell to Janicijevic, a day after his murder.

Exactly four years later, on January 16th, 2018, Ivanovic was assassinated.

Unlike the murder of Ivanovic, no indictments were issued in Janicevic’s murder case.

Janicijevic left behind his wife, mother and four children, the youngest of whom was born after his murder.
