Radojevic: Despite being stationed 50m from the smashed shops, the policemen did not react

Speaking on behalf of the Crisis team, the former mayor of North Mitrovica, Milan Radojevic, addressed the public today from Bosniak Mahala, in the vicinity of Serb-owned shops whose windows were smashed last night.

The windows of four Serb-owned shops, situated on Knjaza Milosa Street at the very entrance to Bosniak Mahala, near the Technical Secondary School, were broken late last night.

The owner of one of the shops confirmed for KoSSev that he was informed this morning that his shop windows were smashed. At the same time, the police of the region north launched a case and carried out an investigation.

On the other hand, Radojevic provided more details about the same case. The former mayor said that the perpetrators of last night’s incident in Bosniak Mahala are unknown. He added that after smashing the windows, they then fled in the direction of South Mitrovica.

He alleged that the owners attempted to prevent an attack on their shops last night when a “Topovski udar” pyrotechnic device was thrown at them.

„According to our findings, some people threw ‘Topovski udar’ devices at them and fled in the direction of South Mitrovica,“ claimed Radojevic.

He then reminded that Mitrovica is the only multi-ethnic town in Kosovo, adding that “a lot of effort and years have been invested in the preservation of its multi-ethnicity.”

In his words, however, Kurti’s actions do not contribute to this – namely, the deployment of police officers to the north, and also their failure to react to last night’s incident that took place near one of their police patrols.

„Those policemen, even though they are located only 50 meters from these shops, did not react at all and silently observed the people who fled in the direction of South Mitrovica,“ alleged Radojevic.

Speaking on behalf of the Crisis team, he also appealed for peace and restraint.

„Serbs in Kosovo are not a threat to anyone, and on this occasion I call on all citizens of North Mitrovica, as well as the entire north, to show restraint, not to fall for provocations, but to defend their right to freedom calmly and with dignity,“ he concluded.
