Serbian MP Miloš Parandilović visited North Mitrovica on Monday, warning that Kosovo Serbs will see no real improvement in their lives until they distance themselves from Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and controversial businessman Milan Radoičić.
“Vučić has handed over all institutions in the north of Kosovo — even things that, it seems to me, no one had asked him to give up,” Parandilović said in a press statement. Speaking at the monument to Prince Lazar, he urged local Serbs to “listen to their hearts and minds rather than submit to blackmail.”
Parandilović, a member of the Serbian parliament with the “Narodni pokret Srbije – Novo lice Srbije” group, traveled from Gracanica to North Mitrovica together with candidates from the “Narodna pravda – Novo lice” initiative, which is competing in Kosovo’s upcoming local elections on 12 October. He walked through the city center alongside the candidates, greeting residents and lending them his support on the ground after previously announcing it publicly.
“Terror of Srpska lista harder to bear”
Parandilović told reporters that Kosovo Serbs find themselves “between a rock and a hard place” — squeezed between Albin Kurti’s government on one side and Srpska lista and Milan Radoičić on the other. According to him, the latter two are “exponents of Aleksandar Vučić” and impose “even harsher terror” on Kosovo Serbs than Pristina does.
“Perhaps the terror of Srpska lista and Milan Radoičić is harder and worse because they belong to this people and inflict it on their own. While people in Kosovo live more miserably, their businesses grow day by day,” Parandilović said. He called the dismantling of Srpska lista’s grip on local politics “a prerequisite for any better life.”
“If we want Milan Radoičić to come here and decide our fate — who can work, who can open a business and how much of a cut must go to him — then fine. I have nothing against it. But I think Serbia deserves better, and Kosovo Serbs deserve better,” he added.
Criticism of Vučić and Ohrid Agreement implementation
The MP also accused President Vučić of “handing over all institutions in the north of Kosovo” and said the final phase of implementing the Ohrid Agreement — covering license plates, education and healthcare — is currently underway.
While harshly criticizing the ruling party and its allies, Parandilović praised the “Narodna pravda – Novo lice” candidates for offering “an alternative” and “freedom” in what he called “a time of evil.” He stressed that none of them are “without sin” but that they refused to become part of the “criminal octopus” despite pressure to do so.
“I decide what to do with my mandate”
Asked why he did not join other opposition MPs and students in leaving the Serbian parliament, Parandilović said walking out would only “leave even more room for Vučić’s regime.”
“Vučić already controls everything and manipulates everything. The little space left for me to say what I think about his policies — why would I deny myself that?” he concluded.
