Members of the Kosovo Police’s Economic Crime Unit are tonight conducting a search of the apartment of one of the two Serbs who were detained earlier today in the northern part of Mitrovica over the distribution of Serbia’s mail.
A KoSSev team on the ground observed, at around 20:30, police vehicles parked near Srez, while the search was ongoing.
The information that the search is being carried out was confirmed to KoSSev by the Head of Operations of the Kosovo Police for the North region, Petrit Fejza.
There are currently no additional details on the course or outcome of the search.
The two men detained earlier today in northern Mitrovica over the distribution of Serbia’s mail have been released to defend themselves in regular proceedings, the Kosovo Police previously confirmed to KoSSev.
As Veton Elshani, Deputy Commander of the Kosovo Police for the North region, told KoSSev, the case has been classified as “abuse of economic authorizations.”
During the operation, police seized part of the mail, including court summons, as well as letters from the Serbian Tax Administration, along with phones and cash.
The two Serbs, Ž. B. (1966) and V. A. (1971), were detained earlier today in North Mitrovica following a report that they were distributing mail.
As Petrit Fejza previously stated, they were found in possession of shipments originating from Serbia.
After being taken into custody, they were brought to the police station, where they gave statements, after which the prosecutor decided that they would be released to defend themselves at liberty. The case is being handled by the Kosovo Police’s Economic Crime Unit.
At the beginning of August 2024, the Kosovo Police closed all Serbia Post offices in northern Kosovo due to a lack of operating licenses, after which the services previously used by citizens were relocated outside Kosovo.
