Kosovo Special Prosecutor Elez Blakaj resigned from office due to threats, Kosovo Prosecutor Aleksander Lumezi confirmed to the media.
It is suspected that Blakaj was exposed to threats during the investigation into of the Kosovo-based Imam, Shefcet Krasniqi, and recently during an investigation on the manipulation of the lists of veterans of the former „Kosovo Liberation Army,“ Kosovo media reported.
Lumezi stated that Blakaj was provided with protection in cases where he reported threats.
According to the information published by Kosovo news media portal Insajderi.com, during the investigation of Imam Shefcet Krasniqi, Blakaj’s children were threatened and they were followed by police protection, while Blakaj himself did not seek protection.
„The Prosecutor (Blakaj) was on holiday when he informed the chief prosecutor that he was no longer a prosecutor, without giving any explanation for the reason behind his resignation,“ Ljumezi told insider.com.
