Kosovo Police have arrested six people, including five minors, on suspicion of vandalizing gravestones at an Orthodox cemetery in the village of Plemetina, near Obilic, police confirmed on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Saturday at the Orthodox cemetery in Plemetina, a predominantly Serb village. Two gravestones belonging to the Jakovljević family were reportedly knocked down and severely damaged.
According to earlier information released by the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, members of the deceased’s family discovered the desecrated graves upon visiting the cemetery and immediately reported the incident to the police, who launched an investigation.
Kosovo Police said the investigation led to the identification and arrest of six suspects in connection with the case, five of whom are minors.
“The work of police investigators resulted in the identification and arrest of six suspects (five of them minors), for whom there is grounded suspicion that they were involved in the incident that occurred in Plemetina near Obilic on December 13,” Kosovo Police stated.
All suspects have been placed in police custody and are facing charges for the criminal offense of “desecration of graves or tombstones,” the police added.
